PARKING – there is ample parking at the race site (263 King Street, Oviedo – the Methodist Church). But part of King Street will be closed. You’ll want to approach King Street directly off 426 in front of Oviedo High School. If you find yourself looking at a closed street, no worries! You can also park at First Baptist Church of Oviedo (45 W. Broadway Street, Oviedo) (turn right when you realize you’re heading toward a dead end, then pull to the back of the lot). Parking is FREE!!
BATHROOMS – there are restrooms on site just a few hundred feet from the starting line. The opening ceremony begins at 7:20, and we’ll give you a few minutes’ warning in case you want to leave your cell phone/watch in the car.
The Rising is a 5K run/walk that takes you past cool historic places in Oviedo, then feeds you and your friends and family a FREE homemade breakfast of pancakes and eggs (breakfast donations are cheerfully accepted and encouraged from all non-registered runners – we recommend $5 per adult and $4 per kid. Please be generous if you’re able, but don’t let cost keep you away. There will be donations bins around, but no “ticket taker”). You can be a chip-timed runner or a more casual walker. 100% of proceeds benefit local scholarships and the food pantry at HOPE Helps.
The event combines all the things you love best about The Oviedo Preservation Project’s traditional Cemetery Tour and Historic Hike and community breakfast into one fun-filled morning. Scouting patches are still available for those who meet the criteria!
Curious who will be there? The same Founding Fathers (and Mothers) will be present Saturday Morning for breakfast as will be at the Twilight Tour. Click HERE for a list of visitors.
On Saturday, in addition to a 5K and a fog-surrounded stage with actors, there will be a few booths, a bounce house, kids’ runs, a balloon twister – FUN!
