Actually, it’s two causes: (1) Improving Education and (2) Fighting Hunger and 100% of proceeds of this event go to charity.
The Oviedo Preservation Project (TOPP) has been serving Oviedo since 2005 and is a publicly supported 501(c)(3) charity run entirely by unpaid volunteers. TOPP is the sole organizer and one of two beneficiaries of this event. TOPP tricks people into learning about history by creating gimmicky (but content-rich) community events that showcase our town’s rich history. In the Rising, athletes will travel past 10 places that are eligible to be on the National Register of Historic Places while getting some exercise and (hopefully) listening to the podcast that narrates the route. TOPP also publishes a calendar circulated to 20,000 people each year, hosts the Citrus & Celery Cook-Off at Taste of Oviedo, and awards 4-year scholarships to civic-minded graduating seniors.
HOPE Helps seeks to prevent and reduce homelessness in Central Florida by equipping individuals and families to become self-sufficient through Housing, Outreach, Prevention, and Education. Proceeds from this event will help stock the local food pantry with healthy fruits, veggies, and whole grains. HOPE, like The Oviedo Preservation Project, is also a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.
