KIDS’ RACES –8:45 a.m. is when these start, regardless of whether everyone has gotten back from the main race. The kid runs are FREE, but we ask that you register in advance so we’re sure to have enough participation ribbons and T-shirt (all kids registered on or before October 16 receive a T-shirt!) . Please click here to register!
FOOD – 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the First United Methodist Church of Oviedo and other volunteers will be cooking up a fantastic hot breakfast of eggs, our famous homemade buttermilk pancakes (we culture the buttermilk ourselves!), and fresh fruit. All runners and supporters are welcome to indulge, and donations are welcome and encouraged (we recommend about $5 per adult, $3 per kid). 100% of donations for breakfast will go to restock the local food pantry, so please be as generous as you’re able (but don’t let cost keep you away)
DULCIMER PLAYING – If you don’t know what a dulcimer is (and even if you do), then be prepared to be delighted along the race route and at breakfast by this old timey instrument.
COFFEE – The Townhouse Restaurant will be serving up piping hot coffee for those brave enough to drink a dehydrating beverage after running 3.1 miles. Visit some of our Creamer Sponsors (vendors) in the race area to liven up your beverage and see what they have to offer! Please bring your own reusable mug – it will help us PRESERVE Oviedo by reducing the amount of waste this event generates.
COSTUME CONTEST – Dress up as your favorite person from history, learn a little bit about his or her life, and come wow your friends and neighbors with your acting abilities! No blood, guts or gorey stuff – this is a family-friendly event.
We will have one lots of winners (check the Awards Page). Consider something in one of these categories: notable Floridians, inventor, explorer, or famous teacher. Safe props are welcome, even on the run. If you bring dangerous or overly realistic props, the police will take them away from you. So don’t do that. Costume Contest Judging begins at 7 a.m. and ends at 9 a.m. (judges will be scouting the crowd before the run begins, as it’s going on, and after it ends).
BOOTHS – We’ll have some! If you’d like to occupy one and your business supports heath, nutrition, kids, or history, contact Megan@OviedoTraditions.org
BOUNCE HOUSE – Yes! Please wear socks!
